Day 9 - Chatheau de Fere

I will have a lot more pictures tomorow but I thought I would at least post a small blog today specificallly on the chateau. It is about a one and a half hour drive from Paris (if you know how to navigate the roads in France) out in Champane country. The two closest cities are Epernay which we visited earlier yesterday and Reims. In early french history the kings were crowned at the main cathedral in Reims. In later days they stopped at the Chateau de Fere on their way to Paris to be crowned. The main castle was destroyed a number of times over the ages and finally abandoned as a ruins. They built a beautiful country hotel in front of the ruins some years ago and this is how it stands to this day. One thing of note is the restaurant at the hotel is a noted four star dining establishment and attracts a number of Parisians each weekend who drive out for dinner and stay the night. Very civilized and indeed the food is worth it's four star status.
It was on our agenda today to visit Reims but last night at dinner we collectively decided to take a down day since the first eight days were jam packed and we were all dead tired. Turned out to be a good choice since it rained all day and indeed it is approaching midnight and it is still raining. I was also working on the computer in a little sitting room and over heard some Americans talking about how the highway to Reims was closed for some race today. So we lazed around all day and met for a nice dinner tonight. Dinner was divine and I'll post some pictures of our plates at a later date.
Since it rained all day you will have to wait for some better pictures of the Chateau. I have some but not as many as I would like.
Till tomorrow.
