Ashlee with the Sculptures of Carmona

Nostalgia de cuerdas

As part of the Bicentennial of the Independence of Latin America Caribbean, the Ports de Paris is hosting an exhibit of the monumental statues/sculptures of the Colombian artist D'edgardo Carmona. There are 26 of 28 of them situated along a 2.5 kilometre stretch of the Seine starting at the Tour Eiffel.  On Saturday Ashlee and I set out to try to find them all and to take a picture of each with her in the picture. We looked high and low but couldn't fine one of them, another was inside the Port's headquarters which was closed, two are at another location in Paris and about a half dozen have been vandalized or pushed over which is unfortunate since I wanted to take a picture of Ashlee with each of the statues and it doesn't work with the one's that are vandalized. We did get good pictures of 20 of the 28 and sometime this week I'm going to try to get the other two that are located off-site and the one in the Port head office.

We had a blast trying to find them along the Seine in the 15'th arrondissement. (This btw is a good way to explore a city ... set out to find a series of something that you know is in the City you are visiting and spend the day treasure hunting. For instance there are some 30 statues of Queens situated in the Jardin du Luxembourg. I'm not looking for them but it would be a wonderful way to explore the Jardin for a new comer to Paris.)

The titles of these sculptures are all in spanish so Ashlee and I guessed at what each one was about ... and figured out most of them quite easily ... even though neither of us speak a word of spanish.
