Day 6

Sorry folks this is going to be a short one tonight. Tom and Janice and I went out for about a four hour walk tonight and I'm toast. For the third night in a row I'm posting after 1:00 am.
Started the day with Croissant and fresh orange juice ... finished the day with a bottle of wine. You gotta love Paris.
Yesterday was a cruise up the Seine ... today was a walk up the Seine. We wanted to go to the Musee D'Orsay where the impressionists hang their hat but there isn't a convenient Metro stop so we got off at Saint Michel and walked along the banks of the Seine. This is actually quite a long walk and a bit too far for five out of shape Canadians. Actually three out of shape Canadians ... Janice and Tom managed quite well but Bun and eventually myself gave out. Lucy also has handled the walking fairly well. Lots of stops along the way helped but we were beat by the time we got there. The walk though is quite interesting ... lots of little booths to buy touristy stuff, great views of both sides of the river and many bridges to cross. I recommend it for those with seasoned legs.
The Musee D'Orsay is something else. You see all these pictures over the years in many venues but until you see them in real life you don't quite appreciate how spectacular they are ... Monet, Renoir, Degas, Van Gogh, Touloise Letrac, Manet, Serrat ... the list is very long. We went to the top floor and looked at the impressionists and post impressionists for a couple hours but we were all so tired that we passed on most of the rest of this place and just went and sat in a cafe for a couple of hours and rested. Great day though.
One of the nice things about Paris is the street food. There are tiny little shops all over the place and for the most part they have great fair which can be eaten on the spot or taken back to your flat and enjoyed on your own. Today we found a little Asian place and bought a bunch of tubs of various Asian delicacies. I laughed because Bun, at the time, remarked that she wasn't going to eat that stuff but guess who enjoyed dinner the most ... you got it ... Bun.
We took the subway tonight to the Arc de Triomphe and walked home which is quite far. But we did stop and book dinner for tomorrow night. It is Lucy and my wedding anniversary tomorrow ( and my birthday Friday ) so we wanted to have a dinner out. Out first high end restaurant of the trip.
Will tell you all about it with tomorrow's post.
Till tomorrow.
