Hermes

There is a new Hermes store at rue Sevre and Raspail on the left bank not far from the apartment we are moving to in a week and very close to the old hotel ( Ferrandi ) that we used to stay in on most visits to Paris over the years. It is the absolute most beautiful store I've even been inside in my entire life. Perfect quality, dramatic and the wood work is incredible. How they twisted the oak is anyone's guess. And then they use the same wood in a similar pattern to create these pods in which they display their wares. This is what branding is all about ... creating a space that matches the brand values of the goods you are selling. Who wants to fight through an ordinary department store to get to the luxury items you want to buy.

This is a concept that Cadillac and even Lincoln ( although Lincoln does a better job of it than Cadillac ) has to learn if they are ever to compete with the other luxury vehicle companies. Does a luxury car buyer want to trip over ordinary Chevrolets designed for the everyday consumer to find the Cadillac on the showroom floor? Absolutely not and this is one of the key reasons these luxury brands occupy the bottom of the totem pole for market share despite vastly improving their product over the years.

The prices at Hermes are shockingly high so bring lots of Euros but this store is a master piece of design and architecture and worth a visit even if you do not intend to buy anything.... Hermes scarf anyone??

Savannah .... it takes a lot of hair cuts to buy a Hermes scarf which is a must for an upwardly mobile young lady in Edmonton .... better get working!

  1. Wow! VERY architectural!!! I love the lattice work ... could you do something like that for the back garden? (it doesn't have to be oak - something more bendy would do ...) You'd have to figure out how to camouflage the mosquito netting though ...

Never mind the Hermes scarf. More importantly, how many ties did you purchase?!?!?!

  3. The store has been published in quite a few architectural magazines. It's cool that you've been able to see it in person.
